Chana Masala (Savory Indian Chick Peas)

CHANA MASALA
Prep Time: 15 minutes. Put the rice on first.

You can substitute Lentils for Ground Beef and Tofu for Chicken, but one thing you can't really substitute is spices. I highly recommend going to your local Winco, Asian Market, or Costco to get a variety of spices at the lowest prices you can find. Winco is your best bet, but the other options are very good. Then you have the ability to make a grand plethora of diverse recipes with authentic tastes! This recipe calls for a few you will really want to add to your kitchen.

Ingredients:
1 can diced tomatoes
1 can chick peas/ garbanzo beans
4 cloves garlic (or 2-4 big spoonfuls from your giant $4 Costco container of pre- minced garlic)
2 teaspoons coriander powder
2 teaspoons garam masala
1/2 teaspoon tumeric powder
1 pinch salt to taste
Fresh chopped cilantro- about 3 tablespoons (optional)

Dump all ingredients in a large microwavable bowl. Stir. Heat in the microwave for 3 minutes. Stir. Heat for one more minute. Serve over rice. 2/3 white rice mixed with 1/3 brown jasmine rice (cooked together) from Winco is a healthy boost. Welcome to Indian Food! Add a fresh fruit and vegetable to fill out your meal. Pack some into a lunch for school, of course! Enjoy.
